Frequently Asked Questions About Roller Blinds
What is the widest roller blind you can do?
The maximum fabric width most roller blind fabrics come in is 3 metres. So something like a standard sliding door is no problem. There's a newer fabric range that spans 3.2m in popular fabrics. The longer the roller blind, the heavier, and will require a stronger roller blind tube or motorisation for ease of operation.
We specialise in making all roller blinds including wide blinds in our Wyoming factory and have a huge range of roller blind fabrics available on site. It's possible to make a roller blind wider than 3.2m wide, but it requires a large tubes (to carry the weight of the fabric so it doesn't bow) and likely a join in the fabric. Although we don't make them locally we have access to internal roller blinds that can span as wide as 5.4m but they will require motorisation as they are quite heavy. It is always an option to have 2 roller blinds side by side, and operated together on one side.
What is the best blockout roller blind?
We have a huge selection of blockout roller blind fabric in many different colours, textures and price ranges.
Our affordable easycare range "Ocean Beach Blockout" has been hand selected by Premier Shades as your everyday use Roller blind BLOCKOUT fabric. It has over 28 matt finish blind colours, many of them the same colours as the popular Dulux colour paint colours.
It is lead free and PVC free and complies with the Building Code of Australia. It has accreditation for use in sensitive areas like schools and healthcare facilities. We think it's great value for money.
Because we make our roller blinds here in our factory at Wyoming, Central Coast we keep in stock the most popular roller blind fabric colours.
Whilst the fabric is still 100% blockout, remember you'll still get a light gap down the sides of the roller blind due to the brackets Some of the more premium blockout fabric are extra thick with a flocked back for added insulation.
What is a day/night roller blind?
There are many names for a Day/Night Roller Blind, or dual roller blind.
It means there are two roller blinds fitted within the one window often a screen roller blind for during the day, and a blockout roller blind at night. The specialised roller blind brackets we use are streamlined so they fit neatly against the window frame.
Many people use a roller blind screen fabric like One Screen during the day. It reduces the heat and the glare coming into the room but still allows you to see out clearly. It DOES NOT make your room dark. It is also great for privacy during the day as people outside cannot see in.
Unfortunately it works in reverse at night. That is why it is ideal to have the blockout roller blind for the evenings. Many of our clients choose a textured blockout blind to add another layer of warmth to the room and the textured fabric look really cosy when the evening light hits or lamps them.
Having two roller blinds in one window offers you an added layer of insulation. And dual roller blinds CAN be motorised.
Thinking of a motorised roller blind?
Premier Shades are blind motorisation specialists. In fact we are the ONLY Gold Licenced Somfy automation dealer on the Central Coast.
This means that we are trained in blind automation and can advise you on all your motorisation needs.
The 5 main benefits of motorising your blinds:-
Convenience: With the simple touch of a button you can move your blind to wherever you like. Especially if the blind is one you wind up and down every day, or several times a day. It's just a matter of pushing a button and it will glide up or down without you having to stand their pulling chains up and down. You can also add sensors and timers so your products work for your even when you are not at home.
Energy Efficiency: Reduce your energy usage by controlling the amount of heat and light entering your home. Keep your home cool in summer by reflecting the harsh heat of the sun but allow the sun in during winter to enjoy natural warmth and light.
Longer Lifespan: Manual operating a blind can mean touching it more. Often daily, which is general wear and tear. If a blind is not used correctly used manually they may yank at it and break it. Motorisation works well in areas with multiply users like offices or holiday homes.
Safety: Loose cords and chains are a danger to young children. With Somfy automated blinds there are no hanging cords or chains. This will provide peace of mind and makes them ideal for children's bedrooms.
Quiet and Discreet: Somfy's world leading motors are fully concealed inside the top tube of the blind. With the simple press of the remote control you'll enjoy the ambience and impress your guests with a quiet and sophisticated automated system.
Premier Shades is the local expert in motorisation. We have battery powered motorisation (no electrician required) or Somfy 240 volt motorisation, which requires the additional cost of an electrician.
